TRIBUTE TO A PHILOSOPHER KING– MOSES SUNNY AJU

Moses, the news of your unexpected and untimely death kept me devastated and confused for a long period of time. In-fact, I couldn’t come to terms with reality to
accept the fact of your demise for a very long time, having seen you and interacted with you a few days back when you were hale and hearty. Indeed the news of your death was more like a fairy tale.

You were to me an invaluable and dependable Associate, always identifying with all my life endeavours and blowing my trumpet loud and clear. As my media Aide, you exposed me to incredible publicity that placed me permanently in the public domain,
winning accolades and admiration from all sincere minds. You were an epitome of humility, with the virtue of trust and reliability overtly visible in you at all times.

Your intellectual acumen distinguished you as a rare gem, indeed a philosopher king
with innate wisdom akin to the biblical Solomon. Your academic records at the philosophy Department of University of Calabar attest to your invincibility, just like
your short stay in the University of Cross River State (UNICROS) was
overwhelmingly illuminating.

Peace Stone, your untimely and painful exit is being felt in the nerves by all and sundry. You left at a youthful age devoid of even an offspring to mount the relay box
for you. This is an ill-fated occurrence for the Aliforkpa kindred and a monumental loss to the Yache Nation.

I am always tempted to think aloud that your unexpected death is not the will of God, but only to momentarily come to the realisation that it is only God that can permit one’s exit at the appointed time. I therefore, have no choice than to succumb to the universal belief that God gives and God takes away. It is on this note that I seem to have some respite and have the courage to say: have a smooth journey to the heavenly home and rest peacefully in the bosom of the Lord.

Adieu Peace Stone!

CROSS RIVER HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY DECLARATION SPEECH BY ASEGEM EMMANUEL ON APRIL 14, 2022 AT IJIRAGA, SOUTH UKELLE, YALA LGA, CROSS RIVER STATE

Why I answered the clarion call to run for Yala 2 Constituency Election in 2023 – Asegem

“I want us to extend our horizon beyond the status quo, consolidate on our feats and conquer the woes and memories of our ugly past.”

I stand here before these great party men and women, supporters, traditional leaders, the clergy, women, youth, friends and well-wishers, who have come from the six wards that make up Yala 2 Constituency. I am elated to welcome you all to this very august occasion that God has ordained as a turning point in body politics of Ukelle and Yala 2 Constituency.

First and foremost, let me use this opportunity to express my gratitude to God who foreordained this remarkable day that will, no doubt, go into the annals of Ukelle Nation. And for you all who have made it a point of duty, out of your busy schedules, to honour my invitation, I sincerely appreciate your love and kindness.

Three years ago, in 2018, I stood on the same ground to share my vision for Ukelle under the platform of the People Democratic Party (PDP). You all promised to give me your mandate, knowing fully well how critical it was to change the narratives in our dear constituency. However, we allowed the will of God, through the party leadership, to prevail, after a lingering protest that greeted the process that halted my ambition. I knew how you all felt as loyal party men who had built the party from the scratch. However, we were consoled by our dear father and leader, His Excellency, Governor Ben Ayade and party leadership, who held the olive branch to ensure peace and stability in the party.

Here we are in a new dawn, which has come with the resurgence of our vision, which has remained a viable, enduring and undying seed in our hearts. Ukelle remains a fertile ground for this seed – our vision, to be planted, watered, nourished and harvested to sustain us and unborn generations.
Ukelle has remained a weeping child among the nations that make up Cross River State and is crying for a fearless, daring savior and buoyant-hearted leader who can accommodate all of us that live together, without an atom of segregation; a leader who will see all the inhabitants of Yala 2 – Wanokom, Wanihem, Wanikade, Ijiraga, Igede, Ezekwe, Okpodon, Nfuma/Ntrigom and all others as one indivisible entity.

We have witnessed a number of inter-communal land disputes in the past, even when I was not representing the constituency in the capacity of a law-maker, I was able to contribute my quota to ensure lasting peace. This, amongst others, earned me the title: “Ambassador of Peace.” Representing you in Cross River State House of Assembly will naturally afford me a better pedestal to ensure peace in Ukelle land.

Further, Ukelle people need a leader who hobnobs with them, one who is accessible and understands the pains, even when they only express it through their body languages. I have never been far away from my people – I live and do my business in Ukelle and paid my dues in terms of community development and youth empowerment. Some of my contributions include:

✓Purchase and distribution of motor cycle to youths in Ukelle
Grants and financial aid to some young people to support their entrepreneurial ventures
engagement of over twenty youth in meaningful businesses
sponsorship of sport tournament during New Yam Festival

✓Empowerment of over 130 young people across Yala LGA

✓Service to Community as Chairman
Serve as mouthpiece of Ijiraga Community

✓Facilitation of the replacement of 500 KVA transformer in Ijiraga community

✓Inauguration and funding of Asegem Foundation, a CBO for capacity building, youth empowerment and scholarship. The organization funded medical outreach across Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency in December, 2021

✓Donation of sports facilities to Government Secondary School, Ijiraga

✓Rehabilitation of 6-classroom blocks in Government Technical College, Ijiraga

✓Regular repair and maintenance of motorized borehole in Ijiraga ward

✓purchase and distribution of relief materials to Wanihem and Wanikade during crises.

MY AGENDA

My answer to the clarion call is based on the fact that I want us to extend our horizon beyond status quo, consolidate on our feats and conquer the woes and memories of our ugly past, using the following seven-point Agenda as blueprints:

  1. I have plans to entrench alternative dispute resolution model as a mitigation to security challenges that have been eating cancerously into the Ukelle bond as the peace and unity of Ukelle is sacrosanct. This can be achieved by restoring the lost glory of cultural and traditional institutions.
  2. I will facilitate building and upgrading of infrastructural and ensure aggressive development of feeder roads, which will boost socio-economic activities in Ukelle
  3. I will collaborate with health-related NGOs and government to attract effective healthcare delivery and consistent periodic medical outreach to Ukelle people.
  4. I will maintain robust information system and follow up on INGO’s, NGO’s, federal, state and government programs on Agro-allied assistance, grants and loans for agribusiness enterprise
  5. I will have a constituency office and ensure regular town hall meetings to relate government programs to Ukelle people that have been deprived of the right information and as well relate Ukelle priorities to government.
  6. I will ensure sports development as well as partner with relevant bodies to provide platforms where talented young people can fulfil their dreams
  7. I will ensure rural-urbal migration, child trafficking and other social problems which have resulted in brain drain and drastically reduced our population, are disincentivized by sourcing funds to promote acquisition of vocational skill and scholarship for young people. .

As you can see, we have a lot to achieve together, when we clinch the seat, by the grace of God.
Having said these, I want to use this medium to declare my interest to run for Cross River State House of Assembly seat in Yala 2 Constituency in the General Election.
I want you to take this message to the nooks and crannies of Ukelle, telling everybody that it’s a new dawn as we begin a Rescue Mission for Yala 2 Constituency.

Thank you for your time

God Bless Ukelle Nation!
God bless Yala LGA!!
God bless Cross River State!!!
God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!!

SUBEB CHAIRMAN LAUDS AYADE ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF TEACHERS CONTINUOUS TRAINING INSTITUTE

The Executive Chairman, Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Senator Stephen Odey Ph D has commended Governor Ayade on the conceptualization of the Teachers Continuous Training Institute (TCTI) for West Africa in Biase Local Government Area.

Senator Odey made this known when he received in audience Staff of the Institute, led by the Deputy Director General, Mrs Mary Omaji, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Calabar.

Describing it as a world class training institute with state-of-the-art facilities, Sen. Odey said the Governor’s passion for the education sector led to the establishment of the Institute to cater to the training needs of teachers.

While stating that training of teachers plays a key role in improving the education sector in the State, the SUBEB Boss assured of the Board’s readiness to partner with the institute in the Board’s future trainings for teachers.

According to him, “I aligned with the Governor’s vision when he conceptualized the teachers’ training institute; it is a policy that should be highly celebrated. Even though we, in collaboration with UBEC already do a lot of trainings for teachers, there is still a lot more we can do. We will collaborate with you in our subsequent trainings.”

While urging the Institute to spread its tentacles to other states, Sen. Odey said “You should not only aspire to train Cross River teachers; you need to reach out to other States to take advantage of the institute’s facilities and conducive learning environment to hold trainings. This will also help to generate revenue to sustain the institute.”

The Deputy Director General, Teachers Continuous Training Institute (TCTI), Mrs Mary Omaji commended SUBEB Chairman on the pivotal role he played in bringing the TCTI to realization.

She said the visit was to intimate the Board on its upcoming training of Principals and seek partnership for future trainings.

In her words: “The Institute kicked-off in 2021 with the commencement of activities in the demonstration school and we have done everything to ensure that it runs smoothly. However, we have discovered that we were giving more attention to the demonstration school instead of the core mandate of setting up the Institute which is to train teachers. So we are hitting the ground running with the training of all principals from the 25th of May, 2022.”

While stating that the upcoming training for Principals is a test run for what the Institute hopes to achieve in the future, Mrs Omaji said “it was important for the institute to shift its focus to the training of teachers in order to achieve Governor Ayade’s dream so that people will know that this is not a white elephant project,” she emphasized.

Thursday April 7, 2022

The Executive Chairman, Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Senator Stephen Odey Ph D has congratulated the Executive Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prof. Sir Ben Ayade on his landmark victory at the Federal High Court, Abuja today.

“The People’s Democratic Party only helped to give credence to the mandate which the people have trusted Gov Ayade with.

“Although, they (PDP) meant to distract him (Ayade) because of their clandestine desperation, but because darkness cannot transcend over light, Ayade came out victorious to their chagrin.
